Work and purpose can co-exist. Sometimes I hear people say they had to leave work to pursue their purpose. Yes, in some situations that may be the case but or the most part, both can be achieved working for an employer. This is where and what alignment of individual goals and organization values is all about.
When purpose and work are not aligned, it robs individuals of the energy to perform, to thrive and to excel. Put differently, it is sheer misery.
There are more reasons you chose to work with an organization beyond the check you get at the end of the month.
What are your values and how are they guiding you to your purpose? When you chose to work at the organization you are in, how much did these values align with the organizational values?
This is the starting point for everyone seeking purpose at work. If you drifted into the organization, maybe it is time to check for this alignment.
First, what your values? How much do these values drive your decisions and actions? How do they align with that of your organizations.
Some people have never paused to think about what values they hold or what values drive their lives.
Can you see the link between your job today and the purpose for your life?
Do you see anyway your current job or role can be the leap into the life of impact that you desire?
Do you see anyway your role today can be enriched, expanded to become your desired job?
Let’s begin with finding meaning and making impact as an employee.
A lot of professionals struggle to find the link between their corporate jobs and their purpose. The plan usually is to leave the job at some point when some financial or family needs have been met somewhat. So, in the meantime, it will be hard core endurance and grinding it out. It does not have to be like that and should not be.

What if I tell you that you can pursue purpose while at your job?
What if I tell you that doing that will enhance your productivity and reduce your stress and burn-out?
What if I tell you that doing that now will enhance your promotion opportunities?
What if I tell you that finding the way to make impact/pursue purpose using the platform you have as an employee today at the level you are paves the way to becoming the leader your organization wants to keep?
What if I told you doing that doing that can fast-track your transition into the C-suite?
Sometimes we have to create growth opportunities in corporations instead of expecting and anxiously waiting the next level manager to exit? We do not get to the top of our goals, pinnacle of our performance and whatever we define as success or self-actualization only by technical expertise.
The only way these are not feasible is, if you are working with an organization where your identified values are not aligned with that of the organization. If you can find 80% alignment, you can enjoy a career high while working for your corporation because you will be growing yourself and growing the organization.
